Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Delta State men's soccer program struck first before ultimately falling 5-1 to West Alabama at the UWA Track and Soccer Complex Friday evening.
The Statesmen (1-7-2, 0-5-1 GSC) made a strong statement early, grabbing the lead in the 14th minute when
Ryan Thistle netted his first goal of the season, finishing a sharp setup from
Ashton Taylor. The goal capped a composed stretch of play in which Delta State controlled possession and created quality chances, including an early shot on target from Taylor that forced a save.
Defensively,
Santi Rossi,
Logan Funk, and
Eduardo Guevara anchored the back line through a physical opening half, helping hold the Tigers scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Goalkeeper
Leo Summers made key stops in the second half, including a diving save in the 73rd minute to keep the Statesmen within reach.
Offensively, Delta State continued to press forward with
Braden Taylor,
Joshua Diaz, and
Luke Dearsley each registering shots as the team generated four corner kicks and three shots on goal.
The Statesmen return to action on Sunday, Oct. 19, traveling to Huntsville to take on the Chargers from UAH. Kickoff is set for approximately 3:30 p.m. (CDT).
