CLINTON, Miss. - The Delta State University women's cross country team delivered a determined showing at the Belhaven Invitational, securing a fourth-place team finish among 10 competing programs. The Lady Statesmen compiled 124 points, finishing just behind Jackson State and ahead of Dillard and Arkansas–Pine Bluff in a competitive 6K race.
Leading the way for Delta State was freshman
Caroline McAlpin, who continued her strong debut season by finishing 27th overall in 27:28.42, pacing the Lady Statesmen pack.
Senior
Maeve Lavoy followed close behind in 35th (28:22.57), while
Jessica Gannon placed 38th (28:54.03) to round out the top three scorers.
Rounding out Delta State's top five, sophomores
Mackenzie Mercer (41st, 29:52.28) and
Kayla Lofton (42nd, 30:17.61) provided valuable depth to secure the team's fourth-place finish.
Delta State will return to action on Friday, Oct. 17, competing at Mississippi College with the race scheduled for 8:45 a.m.
