CLINTON, Miss. — Delta State University women's cross country opened its 2026 campaign with an eighth-place team finish at the Mississippi College Opener on Friday evening.
The Lady Statesmen were led by sophomore
Caroline McAlpin, who crossed the line in
22:59.1 to place 48th overall.
Lindsey Hogue followed close behind in
23:24.7, while
Linnet Barrock (24:08.0),
Mackenzie Mercer (24:50.3), and
Kayla Lofton (25:07.9) rounded out Delta State's scoring five.
Delta State totaled
240 points, edging several regional programs in a competitive early-season field that featured NCAA Division II and NAIA squads.
The Lady Statesmen return to action Sept. 19 at Rhode College. Meet time is to be determined.
