Box Score FAIRFIELD, Ala. — Despite a late push, Delta State University women's basketball fell to Miles College on Friday night 69-61.
The Lady Statesmen trailed by as many as 17 but mounted a late fourth-quarter surge before ultimately running out of time.
Dakiyah Toney led Delta State with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists, recording a double-double.
Jariyah Williamson added 15 points on 5-of-13 shooting, providing an offensive spark in the second half.
Olivia Allen chipped in seven points, three rebounds, and a block, while
Madi Kate Vuncannon added six points and a team-high four steals off the bench.
Despite trailing 51–40 entering the fourth quarter, Delta State opened the final period shooting 7-of-17 and held Miles to 5-of-15, cutting the deficit to single digits with buckets from Toney and Williamson. Toney's jumper with four seconds left brought DSU within eight, but the early gap proved too large to erase.
Delta State drops to 0-1 on the season and will look to rebound in its next matchup against Southern Arkansas on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Sillers Coliseum in Cleveland, Miss.
