CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lady Statesmen women's basketball team at Delta State University battled through a tough contest on Saturday afternoon but fell to UAH, 76-60, at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
Delta State moved to 7-4 overall and 5–1 in GSC play, while the UAH Chargers improved to 10-3 overall and remained unbeaten in the league at 6–0.
Delta State stayed within striking distance early, trailing just 13-12 after the opening quarter and 33-22 at halftime. The Chargers, however, took control in the third period, erupting for 33 points on 86.7 percent shooting to build a commanding lead heading into the fourth.
For Delta State, Jariyah Williamson paced the offense with 13 points off the bench, while Dakiya Toney added 12 points and four rebounds. Bailey Featherstone chipped in seven points, and the Lady Statesmen forced 13 UAH turnovers while collecting 32 bench points.
Delta State showed resilience in the fourth quarter, outscoring UAH 29-10 over the final 10 minutes, but the third-quarter surge proved too much to overcome.
The Lady Statesmen return to action on Friday, Jan. 2 against West Florida. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Pensacola, Fla.
