Lady Statesmen will welcome #22 Union and CBU to town this weekend

Cleveland, Miss. - The Delta State University Women's Basketball Team (2-3, 0-0 GSC) will begin conference play this week with two Gulf South Conference opponents coming to Cleveland.

The Lady Statesmen will host the nationally ranked Lady Bulldogs from Union University (4-3, 0-0 GSC) on Thursday at 5:30 P.M. in Walter Sillers Coliseum. Following this game, the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers University (3-2, 0-0 GSC) will come to Walter Sillers Coliseum for a game on Saturday at 2:00 P.M.
 
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network and on the FloCollege network.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen:
  • Delta State looks to bounce back from a 64-49 setback against no. 10 ranked Harding last weekend in Searcy. The Lady Statesmen have been solid in Walter Sillers with a 2-0 start on the season.
  • Jariyah Williamson leads the Lady Statesmen in points and assists so far this season, averaging 11.8 points per game and 3.2 assists per game.
  • Madi Kate Vuncannon leads the team with 14 3-pointers made, while shooting at a 38% 3-point percentage.
  • Dakiya Toney leads the Lady Statesmen in rebounds with 34 total. She is averaging 6.8 rebounds per game.
Scouting the Lady Bulldogs:
  • Union University enters this weekend ranked 22nd in the nation in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's top 25 poll. The Lady Bulldogs are coming off a 77-71 loss to national power Ashland in Jackson on Monday November 24th.
  • Olivia Lee leads the Lady Bulldogs in points, rebounds, and assists this season, averaging 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.
  • Union is outscoring opponents by more than 7 points per game while forcing 27.9 turnovers per game.
Scouting the Lady Bucs:
  • Alice Conrad leads the Bucs in points and assists this season, averaging 14.2 points and 4.4 assists per game.
  • Teuila Faalogo and Darling Harris have both been the top rebounders for the Lady Bucs, averaging 6.2 rebounds per game each.
  • The Lady Bucs will have already surpassed their win total from last season as they are 3-2 to start the 2025-26 season. CBU will travel to Clinton to face Mississippi College on Thursday before coming to Cleveland on Saturday.
