VALDOSTA, Ga.. – The Delta State University Women's Basketball Team (12-12, 8-10 GSC) fell to the Lady Blazers of Valdosta State University (14-9, 9-8 GSC) 69-64 Thursday afternoon in The Complex in Valdosta.
Senior forward
Grace Watson recorded her seventh double-double of the season scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds on the evening.
The Lady Statesmen started the game off on fire from the field shooting 7-11 in the first quarter.
Wakiryah Daniels led all scorers with five points after one quarter as both teams finish the first quarter tied at 18-18.
In the second quarter, the DSU front court duo of
Dakiya Toney and Watson would manage to score all nine points for the Lady Statesmen as VSU would pull ahead to a 36-27 lead at the half.
After trailing by 14 midway through the third, Delta State battled back with a 13-3 run led by the Hazel Green duo of Watson and
MaKenzie Hill. Hill finished the evening with 12 points and three assists.
Madi Kate Vuncannon would start connecting from beyond the arch in the fourth quarter as she scored 11 points, but Valdosta State would hold on to the lead in the end winning 69-64.
Delta State out rebounded the Lady Blazers 32-25 in the contest.
The Lady Statesmen will head to Pensacola to take on the Argonauts from West Florida who defeated Mississippi College 51-33. Tip off Saturday will be set for 2:00 p.m., (CDT).
