CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball Team (3-1, 0-0 GSC) will open conference play with the Flames from Lee University (7-1, 0-0 GSC) this weekend in Oxford.
The Lady Statesmen will change venues, as they will play a double header against Lee at MTrade Park in Oxford Friday. On Saturday, the Lady Statesmen and the Lady Flames will play their third game at Oxford High School. There will not be a FloCollege broadcast, but live stats will be provided for Friday's double header. Saturday's game will be on the FloCollege network and live stats will be provided.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen
- Delta State enters GSC play after going 3-1 in the Charger Chillout with wins over Lincoln Memorial, Young Harris and Kentucky Wesleyan.
- In the circle, DSU got two solid starts from Ellie Cox. Cox threw six and two third innings striking out five opponents and holding opposing hitters to a .290 batting average. Emma Enderud also had a solid four appearances for the green and white. Enderud is 1-0 with a 3.39 era and a save in 10.1 innings pitched.
- Senior second baseman Emma Collier started the season off with a bang for the Lady Statesmen. The Golconda, Ill., native went 6-11 with four doubles, a triple and five rbis and 0 strikeouts.
Scouting the Lady Flames
- Lee enters this weekend with a 7-1 overall record after sweeping a three-game series last weekend in Cleveland against Cedarville University.
- In the circle, the Flames have a one-two punch in Natalie Pruitt Geesey and Madison Barnett. Pruitt-Geesey currently has an unblemished 5-0 record in five starts with 11 strikeouts and a complete game. Barnett has a 1-1 record in three starts with 13 strikeouts with an era of 3.44
- At the plate, seniors Rylie Goodridge and Ana Macha. Goodridge leads all Lee hitters with a .556 batting average with 10 hits and a .611 slugging percentage. Macha earned GSC player of the week last week for the Flames. Macha is batting .500 with seven stolen bases along with six rbis and 13 hits.
