BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Delta State University Baseball's senior right handed pitcher Drake Fontenot and right fielder Brett Burrell earned Gulf South Conference Weekly honors announced by the conference office this morning.
 
Fontenot earned the GSC Pitcher of the Week after a stellar start Friday afternoon leading the Statesmen to a 6-0 win over Lee. The Bossier City, La., native threw seven innings of shut out baseball with 11 strikeouts. Fontenot currently holds a 2-0 record with a 1.45 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 18.2 innings pitched.
 
Burrell earned GSC Player of the Week honors after going 6-10 at the dish with four runs driven in and hit two home runs in the Saturday win against Lee. The Cleveland native currently hits .481 with nine RBIs and three home runs this season.
 
The Statesmen hit the road to Monticello, Ark., this evening to face the Boll Weevils of the University of Arkansas at Monticello this afternoon. The first pitch for this afternoon is set for 3:00 p.m. (CDT).
