CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball team (15-11, 11-9) achieved multiple accolades in their 74-67 win over the Flames from Lee University (10-13, 6-13 GSC) Thursday evening on Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum.
Senior guard
Keithean Brooks joined the 1,000-point club with a layup off a turnover with 5:50 left in the second half. Brooks scored 10 points on the evening. With the win, Delta State clinched a spot in the Truist GSC Championship Tournament.
Lee would pull ahead of the green and white early on as they had their biggest lead at 16-8 with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half.
As the Statesmen would trail 26-20 With five minutes remaining in the half, Delta State would finish the first half strong going on a 15-2 run behind a combined 12 points from
Kolby Horace and
Bryce Clayton. Horace would score 22 points and would add a Statesmen career-high six steals.
In the second half, DSU and Lee would be tied five times and exchange the lead four times before the green and white would go on a 14-2 run behind the likes of senior point guard
Chris Terrell.
Terrell led all scorers with 29 points and is now 15 points away from scoring his 1,000
th career point as a Statesmen. Terrell scored 22 points in the second half and added to his nation leading steals total with six on the evening.
The Statesmen shined on the defensive end forcing 18 turnovers while only having four turnovers on the offensive end.
Delta State will be back in action this Saturday as they host the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University, who defeated Mississippi College 85-74 this evening. Saturday will tip-off at approximately 4:00 p.m. (CDT).
