CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball team (15-12, 11-10 GSC) fell at home to the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene University (18-8, 13-7 GSC) 76-69 Saturday afternoon on Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum.
Senior point guard
Chris Terrell surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his Statesmen career with a free throw with just over four minutes remaining in the game
Junior guard
Kolby Horace led all scorers with 21 points as he shot 9-12 from the field.
Trevecca would throw the first punch in the first half, leading 16-7 at the 15-minute mark.
Keithean Brooks would knock down a big three to cut the Statesmen deficit to 28-24 with 2 minutes to go in the first half. Brooks scored 11 points with three assists.
The Trojans would take a 34-26 lead at halftime.
Once trailing by 16 in the second half, Delta State would battle back into the contest with three pointers from
Je'Marion Westbrook and
Bryce Clayton, along with the aggressiveness from Horace and Terrell. After a Horace steal and dunk, Delta State cut the deficit to 54-50 with 7:20 to go.
The Statesmen out scored the Trojans 43-42 in the second half, but Trevecca would end on top, winning 76-69.
The Statesmen will finish the regular season next Saturday as they will travel to Clinton, Miss., to take on the Choctaws of Mississippi College.
