Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lady Statesmen of Delta State University (11-11, 7-9 GSC) fell to the Chargers of Alabama Huntsville (18-4, 13-1 GSC) by a 56-50 final score on Thursday night at Sillers Coliseum.
The Lady Statesmen trailed by as many as nine, 19-10, 12 minutes into the first half, but a 3-pointer by
Martyna Czescik at the 6:50 mark in the second quarter cut the deficit to 19-16.
Alabama Huntsville pulled away again on the home stretch of the first half, leading 31-23 going into the locker room at halftime.
Trailing by 10 to start the second half, a steal and layup by
MaKenzie Hill at the 2:14 mark put Delta State within two, 38-36.
Olivia Allen tied the game at 42-42 with a pair of made free throws with 8:43 to play in the game. Delta State gained its first lead since early in the first quarter on a couple of
Grace Watson free throws, to take the narrow 50-48 advantage with 4:32 to play.
The Chargers went on an 8-0 run in the final 3:21 to take the 56-50 win.
