Lady Statesmen Fall to MC 69-62

CLINTON, Miss. — The Delta State University Women's Basketball dropped a 69–62 road decision to Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum in Gulf South Conference action.

Mississippi College jumped out to an early advantage, using an 18–6 first quarter to set the tone. Delta State responded with improved offensive rhythm in the second period, outscoring the Choctaws 18–19 and cutting into the deficit before halftime, trailing 37–24 at the break.

The Lady Statesmen continued to chip away in the third quarter behind strong interior play and trips to the free-throw line, matching MC with 18 points in the period. Delta State's defensive effort tightened, holding the Choctaws to 15 points and entering the final quarter down 52–42.

Delta State made one last push in the fourth, scoring 20 points and showing resilience down the stretch, but Mississippi College answered key baskets and free throws to preserve the seven-point victory.

Jariyah Williamson led Delta State with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double performance. Bramyia Johnson added a career-high 11 points off the bench, while Kennedee Shelton chipped in eight points. Adyson Roberts was perfect from the field, scoring six points, and the Lady Statesmen received 35 points from their bench unit.

Delta State finished the contest shooting 37.0 percent from the floor and forced 17 Mississippi College turnovers, turning them into 13 points. The Lady Statesmen also held a 43–36 rebounding advantage, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Delta State moves to 8–8 overall and 6–5 in GSC play. The Lady Statesmen will return to action as conference play continues next week as they hit the road to Memphis to take on the Lady Bucs from Christian Brothers University.
