CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's basketball team pulled away in the second half to earn a 76–62 Gulf South Conference victory over Auburn Montgomery on Thursday night inside Walter Sillers Coliseum.
After the teams went into halftime tied at 39–39, the Statesmen turned up the defensive intensity and used a balanced offensive attack to outscore AUM 37–23 in the second half. Delta State held the Warhawks to just 36.4 percent shooting after the break and built a lead that reached as many as 17 points.
Bryce Clayton led all scorers with 21 points, connecting on five three-pointers to pace the Delta State offense. DaCory Porter recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Brendan Braddix posted a career-high 15 points off the bench, providing a spark during a pivotal second-half run. Phillip Hughes also reached double figures with 12 points.
Delta State used an 11–0 run midway through the second half to seize control, highlighted by perimeter shooting and second-chance opportunities. The Statesmen finished with 20 bench points and forced 14 turnovers, converting those takeaways into key baskets.
Auburn Montgomery was led by Marius Canery with 17 points, while Colby Williams added 14. The Warhawks were unable to cut into the deficit late as Delta State maintained control down the stretch.
With the win, Delta State improved to 8–10 overall and 5–8 in Gulf South Conference play. Auburn Montgomery fell to 3–16 overall and 1–12 in league action.
Delta State returns to action Saturday as the Statesmen continue GSC play at Walter Sillers Coliseum against the Falcons from the University of Montevallo, who defeated Mississippi College 76-54.
