Lady Statesmen Welcome Warhawks and Falcons for Two-Game Home Stretch

CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State University Women's Basketball Team (9-8, 7-5 GSC) are back in action this weekend for a two-game home stretch as they host the Warhawks from Auburn University at Montgomery and the Falcons from the University of Montevallo. 

The Lady Statesmen will host the Warhawks from AUM this afternoon for pajama night at 5:30 p.m. (CT) in Walter Sillers Coliseum. Then DSU will be at home this Saturday against Montevallo for the "We Back Pat" game in honor hall of fame coach Pat Summitt at 2:00 p.m. (CT). 

The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call live on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network and on the FloCollege network for both contests. 

Scouting the Lady Statesmen 

  • Delta State enters this contest with a week rest after cruising to a 71-35 win against the Lady Bucs from Christian Brothers last Thursday in Memphis. Delta State with a 7-5 record in Gulf South Conference Play and are a game out of the Fourth Place Spot. The top four teams in the conference will host the first round of the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament in a month. 

  • Sophomore guard Jariyah Williamson has been a spark plug for the Lady Statesmen so far this season. The Henderson, Tenn., native is the top scorer for the green and white as she is averaging 10.5 points per game and is pulling down 5.2 rebounds per game. 

  • In the past two weeks, the Lady Statesmen have got a solid production out of junior guard Bramyia Johnson. Johnson has posted her Lady Statesmen career-high in scoring in back-to-back games with 11 points against MC on January 17th and 13 against Christian Brothers last Thursday evening. 

Scouting the Warhawks 

  • Auburn Montgomery enters this weekend with a six-game losing streak, holding a 2-17 overall record and are 2-11 in Gulf South Conference Play. The Warhawks went 0-2 last weekend at home with losses to Trevecca Nazarene 92-65 and to Lee 77-41. 

  • AUM has a dynamic duo in Samya Brooks and Tamora Brown. Brown is the team's leading scorer, averaging 13.7 points per game along with leading AUM with 36 total assists this season. Brooks isn't too far behind Brown in the scoring column, averaging 13.5 points per game along with pulling down 4.7 rebounds. 

  • Last time out, the Warhawks got a double-double performance from junior forward Nevaeh Small. Small scored 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in AUM's 92-65 loss to Trevecca Nazarene. 

Scouting The Falcons 

  • The Falcons enter their two-game road trip to the Magnolia State with a nine-game losing streak, holding a 3-15 overall record and are 2-11 in Gulf South Conference Play. Last time out, Montevallo fell at home to the Lady Flames from Lee this past Saturday 71-56. 

  • Entering this weekend, the Falcons are led by freshman guard Emily Mouser. The Huntsville native is the team's leading scorer, averaging 11.4 points per game while also leading the Falcons with 56 assists this season. 

  • Last time out, the Falcons had a spark from their bench from Shalexia Little. The freshman guard added a team-high 13 points off the bench while shooting 5-7 from the field and adding a steal against Lee.
