Women's Basketball Delta State Athletics

Lady Statesmen Travel to the Volunteer State for the final regular season road trip

Cleveland, Miss. - The Delta State University Lady Statesmen Women's Basketball Team (15-9, 13-6 GSC) will travel to Tennessee for two away conference games this week.  

On Thursday at 5:30 PM, the Lady Statesmen will arrive in Cleveland, Tenn., to play the Flames of Lee University (15-8, 11-7 GSC). Following this game, the Lady Statesmen will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene (15-8, 12-6 GSC) at 2:00 PM on Saturday. 

The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will provide the radio broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network 

Scouting the Lady Statesmen: 

  • The Lady Statesmen have won seven of their last eight games and are currently on a four-game win streak. These last three games will be pivotal for conference rankings as DSU is currently in second place in the Gulf South Conference Standings. The Lady Statesmen clinched a berth in the Gulf South Conference Championship 

  • Kennedee Shelton comes off a career-high 22 point night and a great week of basketball, where she was honored as the GSC player of the week. 

  • Jariyah Williamson has continued to be a force offensively, where she leads the team in points, averaging 11.5 points per game. She also leads the Lady Statesmen in assists with 2.3 assists per game.  

  • Dakiya Toney is averaging over nine points per game, and she leads the Lady Statesmen in rebounds with 159 total (6.6 per game).  

Scouting the Flames: 

  • After an overtime win over the Lady Statesmen in early January, the Flames went on a seven-game win streak through the month of January. Since early February, the Flames have been cold, experiencing a three-game losing streak headed into Thursday's game vs. Delta State. 

  • Anna Muhonen leads the Flames offensively, averaging 16.8 points per game. She also leads them in rebounds, grabbing 199 so far this season (8.7 per game). 

  • Libby Privett has also been a force for the Flames. She averages 12.3 points per game and leads the Flames in assists, where she averages 2.6 per game. 

Scouting the Trojans: 

  • Jordan Gillies, Cheyenne Trotter, and Tatum Shaw each average double-digit points per game for the Trojans with 15.7, 13.6, and 12.8 respectively. 

  • Trotter has been a force under the basket, grabbing 10.7 boards per game. 

  • Gillies has taken charge of the assists, where she leads and averages 4.5 per game.
