Cleveland, Miss. - The Delta State University Lady Statesmen Softball Team (3-11, 1-2 GSC) will host the Argonauts of West Florida (14-2, 3-0 GSC) this weekend in a Gulf South Conference series.
DSU and UWF will play a double-header on Friday starting at 3:00 PM at University Field. Game three will be played on Saturday at 12 noon.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen:
- Delta State is looking to ride on a GSC winning streak after winning game three on the road against Union last Saturday 8-6. The Lady Statesmen dropped two tight games against Undefeated Blue Mountain Christian University Tuesday afternoon
- Calli McConnell leads the Lady Statesmen with a .486 batting average. She has hit two doubles, one triple, and two home runs, while driving in 12 runs this season.
- Kyleigh Wheaton has also been a huge bat in the lineup. She is hitting .442 on one double, one triple, and five home runs, while driving in 17 runs this season.
- Maeve Lavoy has been solid in the circle for the Lady Statesmen. In 17 innings of work, she posts a 5.35 ERA while striking out 13.
Scouting the Argonauts:
- West Florida enters this weekend ranked in the top ten in the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) poll. The seventh ranked Argonauts are holding a 14-2 overall record and are 3-0 in conference play after a three-game sweep last weekend against Christian Brothers
- While four Argos hit over .400, Hannah Harper leads with a .456 batting average. She has 26 hits including three doubles, three triples, and two home runs, while driving in 21 runs. Nicole Mergen has been a big power stick in the lineup for the Argos. She has driven in 18 runs this season on six home runs.
- Haley Guffey has tossed 57.1 innings from the circle this season. She posts a 2.32 ERA while striking out 36 batters.
