HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Delta State Women's Basketball faced a tough road test Thursday evening, falling 83–45 to UAH at Spragins Hall in Huntsville.
The Lady Statesmen came out strong, holding an early lead and taking a 12–11 advantage after the opening quarter.
Jariyah Williamson set the tone early, scoring from multiple levels as Delta State matched UAH punch-for-punch in the opening 10 minutes.
UAH began to create separation in the second quarter, outscoring DSU 23–16 to take a 34–28 lead into halftime. Williamson continued to lead the Delta State offense, finishing the first half in double figures, while the Lady Statesmen forced turnovers and converted in transition to stay within striking distance.
The Chargers took control in the third quarter, using a 22–7 run to push the lead to 56–35. UAH shot over 66 percent in the period, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and efficient perimeter shooting to extend the margin.
Delta State battled throughout the fourth quarter, but UAH closed the game on a strong offensive stretch to secure the 83–45 final.
Williamson led all Lady Statesmen with
23 points, knocking down four three-pointers and adding five rebounds.
Olivia Allen added
six points, while Lili Wilken paced UAH with
25 points as five Chargers scored in double figures.
Delta State finished the night shooting 29.1 percent from the floor and connected on eight three-pointers. The Lady Statesmen forced 14 UAH turnovers and received 17 points from the bench.
Delta State (11–9, 9–6 GSC) will return head to the western side of Alabama to continue conference action this weekend as the Lady Statesmen will take on the Tigers from the University of West Alabama Saturday afternoon.
