Lady Statesmen Play three-games in five days

Lady Statesmen to host Valdosta State and West Florida this Weekend

Cleveland, Miss. - The Delta State University Lady Statesmen Women's Basketball Team (12-9, 10-6 GSC) have a three-game stretch in five days this week.  

The three-game stretch begins on Tuesday with a game against the Union Lady Bulldogs (16-7, 11-4 GSC) at 5:30 P.M. in Jackson, Tenn. On Thursday, the Lady Statesmen return to Walter Sillers Coliseum to play the Blazers of Valdosta State (12-10, 9-7 GSC) at 5:30 P.M. The three-game stretch will wrap up on Saturday when the Lady Statesmen will take on the Argonauts from the University of West Florida (14-9, 9-7 GSC) in Walter Sillers Coliseum at 2:00 P.M. 


The Voice of the Statesmen, Michael Gross will be on the call live from the Statesmen Sports Radio Network with the pregame show starting approximately 30 minutes before tip off. Gross will also broadcast the last two games of the three-game stretch on the FloCollege Network.   

Scouting the Lady Statesmen: 

  • The Lady Statesmen look to add on to their 74-71 win Saturday at Livingston against West Alabama. Overall, Delta State holds a 12-9 record and is currently 10-6 in Gulf South Conference Play. 

  • Jaryiah Williamson is coming off a big-time week, where she averaged 22.5 points in 2 road games against West Alabama and UAH. She now averages 11.4 points per game. 

  • Dakiya Toney leads the Lady Statesmen in rebounding, where she is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game. Last time out, Toney had a solid performance with 16 points and seven rebounds in the win at West Alabama.  

  • Madi Kate Vuncannon is averaging 1.9 three-point field goals made per game. Vuncannon is amongst one of the top shooters in the GSC shooting 36% from beyond the arch.  

Scouting the Lady Bulldogs: 

  • Union is averaging an 18.3 point scoring margin this season, where they average 86 points per game. Last weekend, the Lady Bulldogs went 2-0 with wins on the road at Montevallo 83-60, and AUM 84-66. 

  • Olivia Lee leads the Bulldogs in points where she averages 16 points per game. She also leads in rebounds with over 6 per game. Last time out, Lee scored a team-high 19 points, dished out six assists and grabbed five rebounds.  

  • Morgan Escobedo leads the Bulldogs in assists (3.9 per game) and steals (2.4 per game). Escobedo fouled out the last time out in the win at AUM with a steal and four assists. 

Scouting the Blazers: 

  • The Valdosta State Ladies are on a 3-game winning streak, beating West Florida, Lee, and Trevecca Nazarene over the last 2 weeks. The Blazers are holding a 12-10 overall record and are in the middle of the GSC standings with a 9-7 record in conference play. 

  • Erin Whalen is the workhorse for the Blazers. The junior guard is leading the team in scoring (13.5 PPG), rebounding (8.7 RPG), and steals (53 total). Last time out, Whalen scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists in Valdosta State's 78-64 win over Trevecca Nazarene. 

  • Senior guard Aryana Hicks is another Blazer averaging double digit scoring this season. Hicks is averaging 10.9 points per game and dishing out 5.1 assists per game. 

Scouting the Argonauts: 

  • The Argos have lost 4 of their last 5 games. They will go to Clinton to play MC on Thursday before heading the Cleveland on Saturday. Last time out, UWF snapped the four-game skid with a 64-60 win over the Lady Flames from Lee. The win gave UWF's head coach Stephanie Lawrence-Yelton win 240, marking it the most out of any Basketball coach in UWF history.  

  • Isabel Grimes leads the way for the West Florida backcourt. Grimes is UWF's leading scorer, averaging 14.5 points per game and currently leads UWF with 66 assists in the 2025-26 season.  

  • In the frontcourt, the Argos rely on graduate forward Amelia Bell. The O'Fallon, Illinois native, leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.9 per game, while also averaging double digits in the scoring column, scoring 13.3 points per game.
