EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Delta State University Swim and Dive program wrapped up competition Saturday at the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with multiple strong finishes to close out the national meet.
On the men's side, senior
Mateus Franco highlighted the final day for the Statesmen with an All-America finish in the 1650-yard freestyle. Franco placed eighth overall with a time of 15:16.41 to earn 11 points for Delta State. The senior held steady splits throughout the distance event and surged late to secure a top-eight finish against the nation's best distance swimmers.
The Lady Statesmen also produced several strong performances during Saturday's finals session.
Olivia Murphy recorded a 13th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 50.55 in the consolation final, earning four points for Delta State.
Kaley Davis added another top finish for the Lady Statesmen in the 200-yard backstroke, placing 10th overall with a time of 2:00.98 to collect 6.5 team points.
Delta State closed the meet with a strong showing in the women's 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of
Olivia Murphy,
Ave Owens,
Aspen Shipp and
Zinna Nimander finished 10th with a time of 3:22.49, adding 14 points to the team total.
The Lady Statesmen finished the national championship meet 10th overall with 185.5 points, capping a successful week in the pool against the top programs in NCAA Division II. The Statesmen also added valuable points on the men's side with Franco's All-America performance in the distance freestyle.
The national championship meet concludes the 2025-26 season for Delta State as the program now turns its attention to preparation for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
