Cleveland, Miss. - The Delta State University softball team (11-19, 5-10 GSC) will head to Alabama for the weekend with a big GSC weekend upcoming. The Lady Statesmen will face the Chargers from the University of Alabama-Huntsville (21-13, 7-8 GSC).
Game one and two will be played in a double header starting at 1:00 PM on Friday. The final game of the series will be played on Saturday starting at 12 noon at Les Studeman Field.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen:
- After a slow start to the season, the Lady Statesmen are 7-6 over their last 13 games. The Lady Statesmen are looking to re-gain momentum after going 1-2 in last weekend's series against West Alabama.
- Kyleigh Wheaton continues to lead the Lady Statesmen at the plate. She posts a .409 batting average, including nine doubles, nine home runs, and 33 RBIs.
- Junior outfielder Carly Dunigan has swung a hot bat for the Lady Statesmen Last week. The Senatobia native helped the Lady Statesmen go 3-2 as she went 7-15 at the plate in five games with five runs driven in, and two home runs. Dunigan also scored seven runs last week.
- In 66.1 innings pitched, Maeve Lavoy posts a 5-4 record with a 4.22 ERA, while striking out 53 for the Lady Statesmen in the circle.
Scouting the Chargers:
- After winning the series against West Florida two weeks ago, the Chargers are on a four-game losing streak after getting swept last weekend by no. 6 Auburn Montgomery in Montgomery.
- Kylie Ballentine leads the offense for the Chargers. She is hitting .369 with 13 extra-base hits and 25 RBIs.
- Megan Shurtz and Katie Bracken each have over 80 innings pitched on the season. Bracken posts a 2.86 ERA with 111 strikeouts, while Shurtz posts a 2.22 ERA with 74 strikeouts.
