CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State University men's soccer team will kick off their home opening weekend on Pig Pickin' Weekend as they host two teams from the Sunshine State Conference.
The Statesmen kick off Pig Pickin' tomorrow afternoon at Delta Field as they take host to the Moccasins from Florida Southern College at 3:30 p.m. The Statesmen conclude the Pig Pickin' weekend Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. as they host the Tritons from Eckerd College.
Both matches will be seen live on the FloCollege digital network.
Scouting the Statesmen
- Delta State enters this weekend with a 1-1-1 overall record. Last time out, the Statesmen worked in a hot ninety-minute 0-0 tie on the road at Ouachita Baptist.
- Senior goalkeeper Daniel Santema holds a 1-0-1 record in the net for the Statesmen. In 180 minutes of play, Santema has seen 20 shots and holds a 1.000 save percentage with six saves on six shots on target.
- Statesmen are looking to continue their strong defensive start only giving up two goals in three matches.
- Tazjean Bird is the Statesmen's leading scorer headed into this weekend. His game-winning goal off of the assist from Micah Soper in DSU's 1-0 win last week at Harding.
Scouting the Moccasins
- Florida Southern enters this weekend with an unblemished 2-0-0 record with wins over Barton (4-0), and Middle Georgia State (3-0)
- The Moccasins have three players with two goals so far this season in Tim Baierlein, Darcy Moffat, and Hector Oliver.
- In the net, Ricardo Marques has a 2-0 record with two clean sheets and seven saves while facing 16 shots in 180 minutes.
Scouting the Tritons
- Eckerd enters this weekend with a match Friday afternoon in Clinton against the Choctaws of Mississippi Christian with a 1-1-0 overall record after splitting last weekend with a 3-2 win against Middle Georgia State and a 1-0 setback against Barton.
- Leading the scoring for Eckerd is freshman defender Tatum Faim. Fain enters this weekend with three points all coming in the 3-2 win against Middle Georgia State.
- In goal, junior keeper Trent Murphy enters this weekend with a 1-1 record with nine saves recorded in the first 180 minutes.
