Delta State University Lady Statesmen basketball player Shaniyah Buford was named a Guaranty Bank Featured Athlete of the Week after a strong weekend helped DSU split a crucial weekend series against Union (Tenn.).

In game one of the weekend set, Buford collected 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists in 37 minutes for the Green and White. 

The Abbeville, Miss. native followed up that performance with 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in 38 minutes as Delta State escaped with a 62-60 win over the Lady Bulldogs to remain in fourth place in the GSC West division. 

Delta State returns to the hardwood on Friday, Feb. 19 and Saturday, Feb. 20 as they travel to Clinton, Miss. to take on the Mississippi College Choctaws.
