DECATUR, Ala. – The Lady Statesmen closed out the Charger Chillout with a split on the final day, falling to Augusta State 8-4 and defeating Columbus State 6-5 in eight innings, to go 4-2 on the weekend and improve to 11-3 overall.
Edie Oliver improved her record to 7-1 in the nightcap, holding Columbus State (8-11) to just two runs until the seventh inning, and
Brittany Eikner provided the offense, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run to straight-away centerfield.
After forcing Columbus State to leave a runner stranded at third base in the eighth inning, the Lady Statesmen took advantage of the international tiebreaker rule, plating pinch runner
Kate Moreland on a two-out RBI-single by
Courtney Clark to claim the victory.
Oliver went eight innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Jennifer Isasi (2-2) was charged with the loss for Columbus State, allowing one run on two hits in 2.2 innings after coming on in relief.
It was mistakes and missed opportunities that cost the Lady Statesmen against Augusta State(10-6). With a 1-0 Delta State lead in the fifth inning, Augusta State took advantage of two walks and an error to load the bases with no outs. Four straight hits later, ASU had a 6-4 lead. Alyssa Pingree added a two-run home run to stretch the lead to 8-1.
The Lady Statesmen tried to fight back, scoring three runs in the last two innings, but left runners at first and second with one out in the sixth, and left the bases loaded in the seventh to fall 8-4.
Brooke Allgood (3-2) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on three hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Sara DeMuth earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits in 2.2 innings with one walk and one strikeout.
