MONTICELLO, Ark.-The University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms swept the Delta State University Lady Statesmen for a second straight day on Friday at Blossoms Park, taking game one 5-1 and game two 5-2.
The losses combined with two wins by Henderson State eliminated any postseason chances for the Lady Statesmen who finished the season 20-32 with an 11-19 mark in GSC play.
2011 marks the first time DSU has not made the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
UAM (38-12, 18-11) plated three runs in the bottom of the second in the opener, using an RBI single from Randa Perry, and a two RBI double with two outs by Jennifer Hickman.
DSU starter
Victoria Combs kept UAM off the scoreboard, and did not allow another hit until the bottom of the sixth.
Marisa Sanders made it a 3-1 game in the top of the sixth with her second home run of the season.
UAM answered back in the bottom of the inning with RBI base hits by Beth Johnson and Summer Huddleston to finish the scoring at 5-1.
Lauren Lewis (2-for-3) was the only DSU player with multiple hits. Perry (2-for-2) was the only Cotton Blossom to finish with more than one hit.
Combs (10-13) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts and four walks. All six hits allowed came in scoring innings for UAM.
Kayla Jackson (22-5) allowed one run on four hits with a pair of strikeouts in the win.
Huddleston opened the scoring in game two in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to center that scored Hickman, who reached on an error.
The Lady Statesmen answered in the top of the third, taking a 2-1 lead, despite not recording a hit in the inning.

Lauren Lewis each scored following a throwing error by third baseman Kendra White.
UAM answered back in the bottom half of the inning, with a two out walk by
Brittany Gonzales with the bases loaded.
The Cotton Blossoms added one run in the fifth, and a pair in the sixth to finish the scoring at 5-2.
DSU did not record its first hit until
Angela Carden reached with a hit through the left side in the top of the fourth. Sanders had the other hit for DSU.
Randa Perry (6-1) picked up the win in relief, as she allowed only one hit in three innings. Amanda Nordberg allowed two unearned runs on one hit in three innings.
Gonzales (7-18) allowed five runs (four earned) on 12 hits in the loss.
