DECATUR, Ala.-The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team pounded out 13 hits in a 9-1 five inning victory over Lambuth, but were then shut out 4-0 at the hands of the North Alabama Lions Saturday at Wilson Morgan Park.
The Lady Statesmen (14-24, 5-11) plated five runs with two outs in the bottom of the first against LU starter Paige French.
Lauren Lewis and
Emily Todd each doubled in the inning, with Lewis' double plating a pair of runs.
DSU starting pitcher
Katie Hebert was chased in the top of the third after allowing four straight walks to give the Lady Eagles their lone run of the contest.
Leading 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth, DSU plated three runs on four hits. The inning featured an RBI double by
Maggie Jackson, and a second RBI base hit by
Caroline Womack.
The RBI's were the first as a collegiate player for Womack.
Lambuth (2-22) recorded its only hit of the game in the fifth inning, with a bunt by Kayla Aycock. Relief pitcher
Sara Davis recorded the final outs of the inning to give DSU the eight runs after five innings run-rule win.
Davis (2-1) picked up the win in relief. Hebert worked two innings and allowed one run on five straight walks. Davis allowed one hit in three innings of work with a career high five strikeouts.

Lauren Lewis, Womack and Todd each had two hits for DSU.
Lewis knocked in a game high three runs in the win.
After the offensive explosion in game one, the Lady Statesmen could only string together four hits in game two versus UNA starter Haley Barnette.
Alex Kieffer slammed a single to left field, scoring Ali Barnette to give UNA (11-21, 6-10) the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
DSU starter
Brittany Gonzales then settled in, retiring the next seven UNA hitters.
The Lady Statesmen had runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the third, when Jackson lined out softly to shortstop to end the threat. The two runners left were the third and fourth of eight left on in the game.
The Lions blew the game open in the top of the seventh with three runs on five hits in the inning, including a two RBI triple by Natalie Harrison.

Victoria Combs.
Gonzales (4-15) took the loss for DSU.
The Lady Statesmen will close out the 2011 Gulf South Conference Crossover on Sunday with a pair of contests against GSC East Division opponents.
Game one will feature DSU versus West Georgia beginning at 10 a.m. while in game two the Lady Statesmen will face No. 1 ranked Alabama Huntsville at 12 p.m.
