Lady Statesmen use timely hitting in split with Southern Arkansas

Lauren Kendall picked up her first career win in the circle in game two
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team scored a pair of runs in the second and fifth innings of game two, which helped salvage a split with the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders, Wednesday at Lady Mulerider Field.
 
SAU (20-27) held off DSU 3-1 in game one, but DSU (18-25) used clutch hitting to take game two 5-3.
 
The Lady Statesmen scored its lone run in game one in the top of the first inning with a sacrifice fly by Taylor Hughes.
 
SAU plated a run each in the second, fifth and sixth innings, using an RBI double, an error and a solo home run to score its runs.
 
Hannah Gill (16-14) allowed only three DSU hits following a pair to start the game. Brittany Gonzales (8-8) allowed only one earned run in the loss for DSU.
 
Amber Adcock (2-for-3) was the only player in game one with multiple hits for either team.
 
DSU again scored in the top of the first in game two, as Adcock scored on a wild pitch by Lady Mulerider starter Macie Tillery.
 
SAU answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning off DSU starter Ashleigh Allgood, as Tillery had an RBI base hit, and Lauren Witzke plated a run on a fielders choice.
 
The Lady Statesmen scored two more in the top of the second, with a two RBI double by Adcock to right center field. SAU scored its final run of the contest in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly by Ashlyn Rybiski.
 
Lauren Kendall (1-4) picked up her first career win, as she allowed one run on seven hits in six innings of work. Gill allowed two runs on three hits in five innings of relief. Tillery allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits.
 
No DSU player had multiple hits.
 
The Lady Statesmen will return to the field on Saturday, April 14 for a 2 p.m. road date with the University of Alabama Huntsville Lady Chargers. The teams split a doubleheader on March 18.
