CLEVELAND -
The Delta State University Lady Statesmen will hit the road for the final weekend of Gulf South Conference play for doubleheaders with West Georgia and No. 1 Valdosta State.

The Lady Statesmen have saved their best play for the latter part of the season, posting a 5-1 record over the last six games. DSU won its first GSC road games in a sweep of North Alabama on April 15, and continued the streak with a sweep of Christian Brothers on April 18. The four game winning streak was the longest of the season for DSU.

DSU won its first game versus Arkansas-Monticello in 12 tries with a 9-4 win in game two of a doubleheader, following a tough 2-1 loss in game one. Maggie Jackson and Brook Cline each hit home runs in the bottom of the first inning in the 9-4 win. Jackson also had a triple in that inning.

Earlier this season, the Wolves and the Lady Statesmen split a doubleheader in Cleveland, with DSU taking game one 8-2. UWG held on for a 7-5 win in game two. Valdosta State used timely hitting to defeat DSU in game one 7-3, and held on for a 3-1 victory in game two.

The Wolves have lost six straight and will be led by Nicole Yancey. The sophomore is batting .368 with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs. VSU enters play with a GSC record 35 game winning streak. Courtney Albritton has had a stellar season, as she enters the weekend with a .452 batting average with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs.

PICKING IT UP AT THE RIGHT TIME
Going into the final weekend of Gulf South Conference play, the Lady Statesmen
have won 5-of-6, which included a season best four game winning streak. DSU
picked up its first GSC road wins of the season on April 15 with a sweep of North
Alabama

CLINE PEAKING AT THE RIGHT TIME
Freshman third baseman Brook Cline has picked up her hitting over the past six
games for DSU. The Frisco, Texas native hit her first collegiate home run in the 7-2
win over North Alabama on April 15, and helped DSU pick up its first win in twelve
tries against Arkansas Monticello on April 19. Cline is now batting .228 with 16
RBIs.

YOUTH MOVEMENT
On opening day of the 2012 softball season, the DSU lineup only featured three
seniors in the starting nine. In fact, three freshmen, and four juniors were in the
starting lineup. Of those three freshmen, two (Amber Adcock and Taylor Holland)
rank in the top three on the team in batting average.

GONZALES KEY TO SUCCESS FOR DSU
Brittany Gonzales has been leading the way in the circle for DSU in the month of
April. Over her last 34.1 innings pitched the Denham Springs, La., native has
allowed only seven earned runs and nine walks with 11 strikeouts. Opponents are
hitting only .235 against the junior during her last seven appearances.

JACKSON LEADING BY EXAMPLE
Senior Maggie Jackson has found new confidence at the plate during her second
season at DSU. Through 51 games this season, the McComb, Miss., native leads
the team with a .338 batting average with two home runs and 11 RBIs. The
Southwest (Miss.) Community College transfer leads the team with 14 multi-hit
games.

HOLLAND FINDING A WAY
Taylor Holland has continued to find a way to reach base for the Lady Statesmen
during her debut campaign at DSU. The Grenada, Miss., native ranks second on the
team with a .328 batting average with 11 RBIs. More importantly, Holland leads
DSU with a .447 on base percentage with a team best 20 walks. The former
Grenada HS product is also tied for the team lead with a .408 average in GSC play.
