Cline drives in three to lead Lady Statesmen to 7-0 win over HSU in the season opener

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.Brook Cline went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Delta State University Softball team to a 7-0 victory over Henderson State University Saturday, Feb. 1 at Reddie Field. It's DSU's first season-opening win since a 4-3 victory over Ouachita Baptist to open the 2012 season. 

The Lady Statesmen (1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, as Cline's single up the middle scored Amber Adcock for the first run of the season. 

DSU tacked on three runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead on Mariah Alvarez's RBI single and Cline's two-RBI double. 

In the fourth, the Lady Statesmen added a run on Adcock's sac-fly RBI to center to take a commanding 5-0 lead. 

Memrie Corley's single to center jumpstarted the sixth inning for the Lady Statesmen.  Two batters later, Taylor Holland launched an RBI rocket-shot to center to extend DSU's lead to 6-0.

Alvarez added an insurance run in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to make the final score 7-0.

The Lady Statesmen collected 14 hits in the game en route to their seven runs.  The Lady Reddies managed just five hits.

Taylor Tucker (1-0) pitched a complete game shutout in her first start for the Lady Statesmen, scattering five hits with two walks and a strikeout. 

The Lady Reddies used two pitchers in the loss.  Kayla Williams (0-1) took the loss after giving up five runs on 10 hits in 3.1 innings.  Reliever Katie McMullen worked 3.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits.

DSU had five players collect multi-hits, led by Cline's two hit performance.  Kaitlin Moore (2), Adcock (2), Holland (2) and Corley (2) all added two hits each.
