THE LEADOFF
For the second week in a row, the Lady Statesmen narrowly missed taking a conference series over their opponents. In week one, DSU lost one game to two against West Alabama. In week two, the most recent series, DSU went 1-2 at North Alabama, the No. 1 team in the conference prior to game one.

Game one featured the second marathon conference game in a row for the Lady Statesmen. The Green-and-White fell short in an 11-inning game by a score of 6-5 but bounced back for game two to win 6-4.
The decisive game three fell in North Alabama's favor, 5-1, for the Lions to take the series.

5-10 sophomore outfielder Kaitlin Moore had a phenomenal day on Saturday for the double-header, going 4-for-8 at the plate and driving in six of the total eleven runs scored by Delta State. Moore finished the series batting .400.

Freshman pitcher Macie Wilde had a fantastic week, picking up two wins over Stillman Collegeand earning the only win in the series with North Alabama. Wilde went 5.0 innings, one-hitting the Tigers, walking one and striking out six. She pitched 4.1 innings in game two against North Alabama, giving up two earned runs on seven hits.

The speedy Kassidy Tally put her name in the Delta State record book last season with 37 stolen bases in a season. This season Tally is already 18-of-20, making strides to having the most stolen bases in a career with 55 in just two seasons.

Tally is tied for second in the Gulf South in stolen bases with 18 on the year. The player with the most has 19.

Four of the Green-and-White are hitting over .300, including Kaitlin Moore, Amber Adcock, Madison Zoeller, and Memrie Corley.

This week's matchup with Valdosta State, the 2012 NCAA Division II National Champions, will be a tough test for the Lady Statesmen.

Delta State was swept last season by the Lady Blazers, falling 7-1 and 7-5 in the double-header in Valdosta. The games in Cleveland were cancelled due to inclement weather.
