JACKSON, Tenn. – The Delta State University Softball team split a doubleheader Saturday, March 15 at Union University dropping game one 5-1 and earning a 6-3 victory in game two at Fesmire Field. The Lady Statesmen improved to 13-14 on the year and 6-8 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Lady Bulldogs moved to 13-13 overall and 2-8 in league action.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early 2-0 in the bottom of the second. After back-to-back hits by Summer Cross and Amanda Chandler, Carter Mansolino reached on a fielder's choice and an error by DSU's catcher allowed Chandler to come in to score. Moriah Bohlmann followed with a bunt single to score Mansolino.

DSU head coach Casey Charles brought in
Taylor Tucker out of the bullpen. Tucker tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief to give the Lady Statesmen a chance at a late comeback.
Kassidy Tally jumped started a Lady Statesmen rally in the top of the seventh with an infield single. After Tally stole second, the sophomore advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Mariah Alvarez delivered an RBI single to left to cut Union's lead to 5-1, but DSU's rally fell short as Kelly Robey worked out of the jam to preserve the win.
Robey (8-8) earned the complete-game win for the Lady Bulldogs after surrendering one run on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
Maddox (3-4) took the loss for the Lady Statesmen after allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.
Alvarez led the Lady Statesmen at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance. Schrader and Lamb both led Union with two hits in game one.
In game two, the Lady Statesmen offense wasted no time in getting untracked en route to a 6-3 victory to even the series at 1-1.
Madison Zoeller's three-RBI double to right-center put the Lady Statesmen up 3-0 in the top of the first inning.
Union answered back in the fourth inning, as Schrader collected her second home run of the day, a two-run blast to center. Sarah Kreuter followed with a sac-fly to right to tie it up at 3-3.
Both pitchers kept the opposing offenses at bay over the next two innings to setup a decisive seventh inning.

Memrie Corley to break the 3-3 tie and put DSU up 4-3. The inning wasn't over for the Lady Statesmen, as
Taylor Holland, the reigning Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, smashed a two-RBI single to center to extend the lead to three, 6-3.
Macie Wilde (4-6) made it stand up in the seventh, retiring the Lady Bulldogs in order to pick up the win. The freshman from Baker, Fla., allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five in the win.
Robey (8-9), who earned the win in game one, took the loss after giving up six runs on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
Zoeller paced the Lady Statesmen's offensive attack with three RBIs after going 2-for-4 at the plate. Corley also collected two hits and Moore finished with a pair of runs scored and RBIs.
The rubber game of the series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
