CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State softball was at home for the first time in almost three weeks as they hosted the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers University. The Lady Statesmen took the sweep in the double-header on Saturday, taking game one 8-1 and game two 5-1.
CBU scored first with its only run of the game in the top of the first in game one. Delta State struggled to get some offense started but finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth and never looked back.
DSU scored five runs on five hits and one error to take the 5-1 lead.
Mariah Alvarez singled to center field to score
Kassidy Tally, tying the game at 1-1. Later in the inning,
Amber Adcock singled to left, scoring Alvarez. RBI singles from
Taylor Holland and
Andrea Cutts scored
Megan Mayfield and Holland to take the 5-1 lead over CBU.
The Green-and-White finished off their offensive attack in the next inning by scoring three runs on three hits and taking advantage of a Christian Brothers error.
Kaitlin Moore doubled to center, scoring
Kassidy Tally and
Memrie Corley. Then, Moore scored on an RBI single by Holland.
Delta State took game one by a score of 8-1, racking in 12 hits.
Andrea Cutts led DSU in game one, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.
Taylor Holland followed close behind with a 3-for-4 game also driving in two runs.
Miller Maddox earned her second win of the year, pitching 7.0 innings and giving up one earned run on five hits.
The Lady Statesmen carried the momentum into game two by scoring first in their first at-bat.

Taylor Holland scored
Madison Zoeller and
Amber Adcock on a two-RBI single to left center, taking the 3-0 lead.
Andrea Cutts stayed hot in game two by doubling to right field, scoring Holland.
Amber Adcock went yard to score DSU's last run of the game, leading CBU 5-0.
Christian Brothers spoiled the shutout in the top of the sixth, but Delta State came out victorious with a final score 5-1.
Madison Zoeller led in game two, going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Taylor Holland followed suite with two hits in three at-bats, driving in two runs.
Taylor Tucker (6-3) earned the win, going 7.0 innings and giving up one earned run on six hits.
Game three of the series will be Sunday, March 9 at University Field. The first pitch will be thrown at 1:00 p.m. DSU will look to take the series sweep over Christian Brothers.
