Box Score 2 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Spectacular pitching performances and timely hitting were key in Delta State's sweep over Stillman College. DSU took game one 6-1 and game two 8-0 in five innings to improve to 24-22 on the season.
Game one saw Stillman holding the 1-0 lead until the third inning before Delta State tied the game and took the lead and never looked back.
Mariah Alvarez got things started when she scored
Memrie Corley on a triple to tie the game.
Kaitlin Moore later scored Alvarez when she singled, taking the lead 2-1.
DSU added two runs to its lead in the fourth courtesy of a two-run home run from
Brook Cline, scoring
Taylor Holland to lead 4-1.
The Lady Statesmen scored their final two runs in the seventh when
Kassidy Tally singled to score
Andrea Cutts. Later, Alvarez hit a slow roller to the right side to score Tally and lead 6-1.
Stillman was unable to score after its lone run in the first, dropping game one 6-1.
Miller Maddox (5-5) earned the win, giving up just five hits and striking out four. The only blemish in her performance was allowing one unearned run as a result of a defensive error.
The second game of the doubleheader continued with a powerful pitching performance from freshman
Macie Wilde.
Kassidy Tally led off the game with a stand-up triple and was later brought around to score on an RBI-single by
Mariah Alvarez to take the early 1-0 lead over the Lady Tigers.
Delta State tacked on four runs in the second when
Andrea Cutts scored
Brook Cline off of an RBI-single. Cutts came around to score on a single by Tally.
Kaitlin Moore notched the game at 5-0 when she doubled to score Alvarez.
Two more runs crossed the plate in the third to set the score at 7-0.

Kara Lane Nowell contributed a double, while Tally had an infield single.
Cutts continued her hot streak as she tripled in her last at-bat and came around to score on an RBI-single from Nowell to take the 8-0 lead. The mercy rule came into effect, as Stillman was unable to score, giving DSU the win in game two and the series sweep over the Lady Tigers.

Macie Wilde only allowed three base runners for Stillman.
Moore and Alvarez each contributed 3-for-6 days at the plate to lead Delta State in its offensive attack.
Ten strikeouts were issued to the Lady Tigers, as they were no hit by the freshman lefty. Wilde improves to 7-7 on the year as she earned the win in game two.
The countdown is on for
Kassidy Tally's race to the single season stolen base record for Delta State softball and the Gulf South Conference. The record has been held at 59 since the 2006 season, but Tally is on the cusp as she currently has 53 on the year.
The Green-and-White continue play on Friday, April 18 in Rome, Ga., as the Lady Statesmen take on the Lady Hawks of Shorter University in Gulf South Conference action. The doubleheader is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
