Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
CULLMAN, Ala. – Delta State softball opened Gulf South Tournament play with a split on day one, defeating West Florida 17-0 but falling to Alabama-Huntsville 8-2.

Scoring occurred early and often for Delta State as they came out ahead of the Lady Argos in game one of the day. Andrea Cutts doubled to right center field to bring in Taylor Holland to take the early 1-0 lead.

DSU added two more runs in the third on an RBI double from Kaitlin Moore and a two-run homerun from Amber Adcock, her sixth of the year, putting the Lady Statesmen up 4-0.

Offense continued to string hits together when four runs were scored on three hits and two UWF errors in the fourth. RBI singles from Moore and Adcock put DSU up 8-0 in the fourth.

A tremendous fifth inning included nine runs on eleven hits for Delta State to extend its lead to 17-0, resulting in the final.

Every batter that came to the plate contributed at least one hit to the total nineteen in the game, a season-high for hits in a game. Amber Adcock led the way, going 3-for-4 with six RBIs and three runs. Kassidy Tally, Moore, Cutts, and Memrie Corley all had a multi-hit game.

Senior Miller Maddox picked up the win to improve to 7-8 on the season. Maddox pitched the complete five innings, giving up just two hits in the shutout and striking out three.

Game two featured game one winners in their respective parts of the bracket, No. 5 seed Delta State and No. 1 seed Alabama-Huntsville.

DSU fell behind in the first inning to the Lady Chargers, 3-0, on three hits and one error.

Three more runs were tacked on by UAH in the third before Delta State answered with a lone run in the third. Moore hit a sacrifice fly to right field, deep enough to score Corley from third for the sacrifice fly.

Huntsville matched the one run the very next inning, and then Delta State scored its only other run of the game in the fifth when Tally singled up the middle to score Corley again.

The Lady Chargers went on to score one more run in the seventh to take the 8-2 victory and send the Lady Statesmen into the loser's bracket.

The Green-and-White were held to three hits in game two of the afternoon, two from Tally and one from Corley. Macie Wilde suffered the loss to fall to 8-8 on the year.

Delta State will take on the No. 7 seed West Georgia on Friday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m.
