CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Former Delta State University basketball standout Jasper Johnson joined the Goyand Orions of the Korean Basketball League (KBL) to extend his 10-year professional career.
The Goyang Orions agreed to terms with 32-year-old former Delta State forward Jasper Johnson. He started the season with the Iwate Big Bulls in the Japanese BJ League. Last season, Johnson played at Bnei Hasharon (Winner League) in Israel. In 32 games with Bnei Hasharon, he averaged 13.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
In 2013-14, he played with the Samsung Thunders. In 52 games, he compiled 15.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
The Hollandale native has also played in Brazil (Minas), Korea (Sonic Boom KT), Argentina (La Union) and the NBA D-League (New Mexico).
Johnson is in his tenth season of professional basketball. While playing professionally, Johnson helped his team to a regular season runner-up finish in the Korean KBL in 2010. He was also voted Asia-Basket.com All-Korean KBL Honorable Mention in 2014.
In 2008, Johnson was drafted by the Los Angeles D-Fenders (D-League) in the first round, selected 13
th overall.
Johnson became the first player in Delta State history to capture the 2006 CellularSouth Bailey Howell Trophy, presented annually to Mississippi's top male collegiate basketball player. He was also named the Division II Player of the Year, NABC First Team, Daktronics First Team, NCAA All-Region, GSC Tournament MVP, GSC Player of the Year and All-GSC First Team.
