LEADOFFThe Lady Statesmen softball team of Delta State University is coming off a tough series sweep against the University of Arkansas-Monticello earlier this week. Delta State will turn around and host the Union Lady Bulldogs this weekend in Gulf South Conference action.
DSU ranks second in the league in batting with a .328 average. That is in large part due to the sensational senior season by
Amber Adcock, who leads the league in batting average (.533) and ranks second in slugging percentage (.800) and on-base percentage (.600).
The Green-and-White will face the league's leading strikeout pitcher, Kelly Robey. UU's senior ranks first in the GSC in innings pitched (100.2) and strikeouts (139).
Junior outfielder
Kassidy Tally continues to inch closer to the number one spot in the Delta State and GSC record book for career-stolen bases. The lefty is six stolen bases away from tying Alyse Hasty's record of 135. Tally is currently on a nine-game hit streak and has reached base in the last 11 games from the leadoff position.
Four-year starter
Taylor Holland is three walks away from tying the career-walks record at Delta State. Head coach
Casey Bourgoyne-Charles holds the record with 75 freebies in a four-year career.
Adcock and
Kaitlin Moore are neck-and-neck in the career doubles column in the record book. Moore ranks third with 43, while Adcock has tallied 42. The duo is chasing the top spot held by Laura Simpson (1996-99) who recorded 48 career-doubles.
