LEADOFF
The Lady Statesmen softball team (19-16, 6-11 GSC) travels to Mississippi College (22-15, 12-11 GSC) this weekend for Gulf South Conference play.

Delta State's offense ranks second in the league with a .324 batting average, behind No. 11 Alabama-Huntsville with a .328 average.

The Lady Choctaws currently rank sixth in the GSC standings; however, with MC being in the provisionary stages of NCAA Division II membership, Mississippi College is not eligible for postseason play. Delta State maintains the six spot with Lee and Mississippi College ineligible.

DSU is reeling off a five-game win streak, taking game three from Lee last weekend and earning sweeps in doubleheaders against Christian Brothers and Montevallo earlier this week.

Senior Amber Adcock leads the Green-and-White offense and the league with a .477 batting average. She and junior Kassidy Tally are the top two hitters for the Lady Statesmen, with Tally owning a .421 average. Four others are batting over .300- Kaitlin Moore (.355), Kory Watterson (.345), Taylor Holland (.324), and Mariah Alvarez (.309).

Mississippi College is led offensively by sophomore Megan Everett who is hitting .380 on the season. Four other Lady Choctaws are batting over .300. Junior Carlie Sargent is MC's ace in the circle with a 15-7 record and a 2.35 ERA.

Adcock continues to climb in the DSU record books. The senior infielder ranks first in career doubles (49), second in career hits (235), and tied for third with most RBIs (135).

Junior Kassidy Tally continues to build on her record for most stolen bases in a career at Delta State and in the GSC. She now has 148 and has only been caught stealing 11 times over three years. The 5-foot-8 speedster is in the hunt for another record, career runs scored. She ranks fifth with 124 and is looking to pass Meredith Coleman (2003-06) in the four spot with 128.

Up next for the Green-and-White is doubleheader midweek action against Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist. DSU will face the Lady Reddies on Monday, April 13 at 2 p.m. and the Lady Tigers on Tuesday, April 14 at 2 p.m.
