LEADOFFDelta State University softball (25-20, 10-13 GSC) will travel to the sunshine state to face West Florida (17-29, 9-20 GSC) this weekend in Gulf South Conference action.
The Lady Statesmen offense ranks third in the league in hitting with an overall .314 batting average.
DSU is coming off a doubleheader split with Harding University earlier this week. The Green-and-White suffered a 6-4 loss in game one but bounced back to win game two 4-1.
Senior
Amber Adcock leads the Delta State offense and ranks second in the league with a .421 batting average. Six others are batting over .300-
Kassidy Tally (.397),
Kaitlin Moore (.350),
Kory Watterson (.327),
Taylor Holland (.326),
Mariah Alvarez (.319), and
Memrie Corley (.309).
Adcock continues to climb in the DSU record books. The senior infielder ranks first in career doubles (50), second in career hits (243), and third with most RBIs (137). Junior
Kaitlin Moore is close behind in the career doubles category in second with 47 and seventh in career RBIs with 117.
Junior
Kassidy Tally continues to build on her record for most stolen bases in a career at Delta State and in the GSC. She now has 156 and has only been caught stealing 11 times over three years. Tally is the current career stolen bases leader among active players and ranks seventh in the NCAA Division II record books for career stolen bases. The 5-foot-8 speedster is in the hunt for another record, career runs scored. She ranks third with 130 and is looking to pass Brittany Tillery (2006-09) in the two spot with 172.
Adcock and Tally are first and second in the conference, respectively, in most hits. Adcock has 61, while Tally has recorded 60 hits this season.
This weekend's series with West Florida will decide if the Lady Statesmen will compete in the conference tournament next week. DSU is currently sixth in the league rankings.
