CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University softball team (14-4, 6-0) continues its 11-game homestand when it hosts Lee University (9-7, 2-4) for a three-game Gulf South Conference series. Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m., while Sunday's finale is scheduled for 1 p.m.

LADY STATESMEN TO HOST LEE FOR GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE SERIESThe Lady Statesmen continue their 11-game home stand on Feb. 27-28 when they host Lee for a three-game series.
- DSU will put its six-game GSC win-streak on the line when it plays host to Lee.
- The Lady Statesmen went 4-1 last week, splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Montevallo, before sweeping West Alabama. The loss to the Falcons was the first home setback this season.

QUICK HITS - DSU is off to its best start in the GSC (6-0) since going 11-0 to start the 2004 campaign.
- The Lady Statesmen have outscored opponents 51-16 in the first two innings.

SETTING THE STAGE: LEE- The Flames took 2-of-3 from DSU in 2015. Lee swept the doubleheader with a 7-5 victory in game one and a 10-4 decision in the nightcap. DSU bounced back, scoring seven runs in the seventh inning, to earn a 12-9 win in the final contest.
- DSU took 2-of-3 from Lee at University Field in 2014.
- Kassidy Tally helped lead the way for the Lady Statesmen against the Lee last year, as she finished the three game series 4-for-10.
- All three current DSU pitchers saw action at Lee in 2015. Taylor Johnson picked up the lone victory for the Lady Statesmen.

EARLY AND OFTENThe Lady Statesmen are 12-2 when scoring the first run of a game. DSU has scored a combined 51 runs in the first two innings, compared to just 23 in the sixth and seventh.

Kassidy Tally slid into the GSC record book as she broke the career stolen bases record (135) of former Lady Statesman Alyse Hasty. Tally, who currently ranks fifth in NCAA Division II history, is the active NCAA leader with 185 swipes, also holds the GSC single-season record with 74 in 2014. The Raleigh, Miss., native is tied for first in GSC history and second in NCAA Division II history with 67 consecutive steals without being caught.

WE WANT SOME MOOREDuring her three year career,
Kaitlin Moore has made her mark on the DSU record book. Moore has a .368 career batting average, which ranks third in DSU history. On Feb. 6 in a 12-4 victory over Rogers State, Moore broke former teammate
Amber Adcock's school record with her 51st double. With her sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth on Feb. 19 against West Alabama Moore drove in her 136th career run to pass Joy Long, which moved her into fourth in the DSU record book.

DOWN GO THE CHAMPIONSWith their 3-2 victory on Jan. 30 over No. 1 North Georgia, the Lady Statesmen defeated the top ranked team for the first time since a 1-0 victory over Valdosta State on April 22, 2012. The loss ended a GSC record 38 game win-streak, and was the 100th career win for head coach Casey Charles.Â

WE WERE MERELY FRESHMENFour DSU freshmen (
Abi Gibson,
Jordan Jones,
Chelsea Lamping and
Morgan Kazerooni) have accounted for 39 percent (66) of DSU's hits (168) this season.

Kazerooni, who has hit safely in 11 straight contests, leads the team with a .450 batting average, 18 RBIs and eight doubles. Her 27 hits rank third in the GSC.

Jones is tied for second on the team with four multi-RBI games, while Gibson ranks third on the team with five doubles. Her .386 batting average is fourth best on the team.

DSU UNDER CHARLESDSU is 195-208 since Casey Charles took over at the helm. The former Lady Statesman is 90-66 at University Field, 52-84 on the road and 54-59 at neutral sites.

LADY STATESMEN TABBED SIXTHFor the second straight season, the Delta State University softball team was picked to finish sixth in the Gulf South Conference preseason poll.

For the second straight year, Valdosta State (92 points) and Alabama Huntsville (87) were picked first and second. 2015 GSC Champion and NCAA Semifinalist Shorter (86) was picked to finish third. North Alabama (80) received the final first place vote.

Lee (65), in its first year as a full member of the GSC, was selected fifth.

The Lady Statesmen had three fifth place votes, four sixth place votes and three seventh place votes. Union (39), West Alabama (38), West Florida (33 points), West Georgia (24) and Christian Brothers (11) rounded out the poll.
