CLEVELAND, Mississippi -- Coming off of its fourth straight Gulf South Conference series sweep, the Delta State University softball team travels to the Carrollton, Ga., for a three-game GSC series with the University of West Georgia. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 11, before wrapping up the series with a single contest on Saturday at a time to be determined.

DSU TRAVELS TO WEST GEORGIA FOR GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE CLASH- The Lady Statesmen are scheduled to travel to Carrollton, Ga., to face the University of West Georgia for their second GSC road series of the season.
- DSU will put its 12-game GSC win-streak on the line.
- With their three-game sweep of Union University on March 5-6, the Lady Statesmen got off to their best start in GSC play (12-0) since going 11-0 to start the 2004 campaign.
QUICK HITS - For the first time under coach Casey Charles the Lady Statesmen are receiving votes in the NFCA top 25 poll.
- Before its series sweep of Union, DSU was 4-6 in its last 10 GSC road contests.

SETTING THE STAGE: UWG- The Lady Statesmen earned a 2-1 series victory over the Wolves in 2015. DSU earned an 8-0 (5) victory in the opener, but UWG bounced back to take the second contest 8-4. The Lady Statesmen scored two runs in three of the first four innings and held on for a 7-4 victory in the series-clincher.
- DSU holds a 7-3 advantage in the last 10 meetings between the two schools.
- Kaitlin Moore collected four hits against UWG last year, including three in the opener.
- All three current DSU pitchers saw action against Union in 2015. Taylor Johnson allowed four runs on nine hits, as she picked up the victory in game three.

Abi Gibson has collected 14 of her 22 RBIs in GSC contests. The Coldwater, Miss., native ranks fourth on the team with a .353 batting average.

EARLY AND OFTENThe Lady Statesmen are 18-2 when scoring the first run of a game. DSU has outscored opponents 72-21 in the first two innings, compared to a 38-27 deficit in the fourth and fifth.Â

Kassidy Tally slid into the GSC record book as she broke the career stolen bases record (135) of former Lady Statesman Alyse Hasty. Tally, who currently ranks fourth in NCAA Division II history, is the active NCAA leader with 196 swipes, also holds the GSC single-season record with 74 in 2014. The Raleigh, Miss., native is tied for first in GSC history and second in NCAA Division II history with 67 consecutive steals without being caught.

WE WANT SOME MOOREDuring her three-plus year career,
Kaitlin Moore has made her mark on the DSU record book. Moore has a .373 career batting average, which ranks third in DSU history. On Feb. 6 in a 12-4 victory over Rogers State, Moore broke former teammate
Amber Adcock's school record with her 51st double.

With her RBI single in the 8-3 loss to Arkansas-Monticello Moore now has 147 career RBIs, passing Meredith Coleman for second in school history.

THE 300 CLUBAll but two of DSU's regular starters currently have a batting average over .300.
Morgan Kazerooni leads the team with a .465.
Kaitlin Moore, who has a hit in all but five games is batting .438.
Kassidy Tally, who has reached base safely in every contest, is batting .411, and has hit safely in 15 straight contests.

HIT PARADEDSU currently ranks second in the GSC with a .341 team batting average. The Lady Statesmen also rank second in the league with 47 doubles and a .418 on base percentage.

LADY STATESMEN TABBED SIXTHFor the second straight season, the Delta State University softball team was picked to finish sixth in the Gulf South Conference preseason poll.

For the second straight year, Valdosta State (92 points) and Alabama Huntsville (87) were picked first and second. 2015 GSC Champion and NCAA Semifinalist Shorter (86) was picked to finish third. North Alabama (80) received the final first place vote.

Lee (65), in its first year as a full member of the GSC, was selected fifth.

The Lady Statesmen had three fifth place votes, four sixth place votes and three seventh place votes. Union (39), West Alabama (38), West Florida (33 points), West Georgia (24) and Christian Brothers (11) rounded out the poll.
