Box Score 2 CARROLLTON, Georgia – The Delta State University softball team split a doubleheader with Gulf South Conference foe, West Georgia. The loss in game two snapped a 13-game conference winning streak for the Lady Statesmen. DSU took the opener 4-3, but West Georgia bounced back with a 3-2 victory in eight innings in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED Game 1 - In the top of the first inning, Jordan Jones put Delta State on the board with an RBI single to left field that scored Kassidy Tally, giving the Lady Statesmen a 1-0 lead.
- UWG tied the game at one in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Summers Wallace.
- In the top of the third, Abi Gibson scored on a sac fly to center field by Morgan Kazerooni to put the Lady Statesmen back in the lead, 2-1. Jones reached on an error by the shortstop, which plated Kaitlin Moore for Delta State's third run of the inning. Kara Lane Nowell singled to left center scoring Jones for the fourth run.
- In the bottom of the seventh, the Wolves started to make a comeback. Kathryn Woody started the rally with a single up the middle. Michaela Hatcher came in to pinch run for Woody and scored on a single down the leftfield line by Marley Stowers. Katie Spinks then reached on a throwing error by Gibson, which scored Kelsey Crook. With runners at the corners, Phillips stepped up to the plate to try and clinch the walk-off win, but she fouled out to leftfield, as Tally made a catch over the fence to end the game, and seal the win for Delta State.
- Starting pitcher Taylor Tucker earned the win for the Lady Statesmen, improving to 9-1, as she allowed three runs on seven hits.
- Katie Shultes (6-3) suffered the loss for the Wolves, giving up four runs on five hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED Game 2 - UWG posed a threat in the bottom of the fourth when Katie Spinks advanced to second on a sac bunt. After a single by Jordan Corbin, Madison Zoeller tagged Spinks out at the plate to keep the game scoreless.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Wolves scored the first run of the game on two hits, as Peyton Stallworth singled to right field scoring Sierra Stella, giving UWG a 1-0 lead.
- After Kassidy Tally walked, and stole second she advanced to third when Abi Gibson grounded out to shortstop. Kaitlin Moore then grounded out to first to score Tally and tied the game at one.
- Jordan Jones singled to start the top of the seventh and stole second. Kara Lane Nowell followed with a single to right field, advancing Jones to third. Jones then scored on a wild pitch to give Delta State a 2-1 lead.
- In the bottom of the seventh, UWG answered with a two-out RBI single by Kathryn Woody to tie the game at two, and send the contest to extra innings.
- In the bottom of the eighth, UWG clinched the win in walk-off fashion when Randi Phillips smashed a double that scored Marley Stowers.
- Starting pitcher Taylor Johnson suffered the loss. She allowed three runs on nine hits over eight innings of work. She moves to 7-3.
- Woody earned the win in relief for the Wolves. In two innings of work, she did not allow a run or a hit to improve to 4-0.
STAT OF THE DAY- Both games were decided by just one run.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE - The loss in game two snapped a 13-game conference winning streak for the Lady Statesmen.
- Despite the loss, the Lady Statesmen are tied with Alabama Huntsville for first place in the GSC.
- Senior Kassidy Tally is 39-of-40 in stolen base attempts this season. The Raleigh, Miss., native has 201 career steals, 49 away from the NCAA Division II record of 250 held by North Dakota State's Nikki Flynn-Gregg, who set the record in 285 career games from 1997-2000.
- Kaitlin Moore now has 148 career RBIs and has recorded a hit in all but five games.
- The Lady Statesmen have recorded four straight Gulf South Conference series wins and go for their fifth tomorrow.
