CLEVELAND, Mississippi -- Coming off of its third straight Gulf South Conference series sweep, the Delta State University softball team travels to Union University for a three-game GSC series at Union University. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, before wrapping up the series with a single contest on Sunday at 1 p.m.

DSU TRAVELS TO UNION FOR ITS FIRST ROAD TEST- The Lady Statesmen are scheduled to travel to Jackson, Tenn., to face Union University in their first true road games of the season.
- DSU will put its nine-game GSC win-streak on the line when it travels to Union.
- With their three-game sweep of Lee University last weekend, the Lady Statesmen moved into first place in the GSC.

- The Lady Statesmen have outscored opponents 59-17 in the first two innings.

SETTING THE STAGE: UNION - The two teams split four games last season, as Union claimed a three-game series at University Field, before the Lady Statesmen earned a 1-0 walkoff victory at the GSC Tournament in Valdosta, Ga.
- Union holds a 6-4 advantage over DSU since coming into the GSC in 2013.
- Kassidy Tally helped lead the way for the Lady Statesmen against the Union last year, as she finished collected four hits. Kaitlin Moore had a game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth to give DSU the win at the GSC Tournament.
- All three current DSU pitchers saw action against Union in 2015. Taylor Johnson picked up an 8-2 victory to salvage the series at University Field.

HOT START With their three game sweep of Lee University, the Lady Statesmen are off to their best start (9-0) in GSC contests since going 11-0 to open league play in 2004.

HIT PARADEDSU currently ranks second in the GSC with a .337 team batting average. The Lady Statesmen also rank second with 34 doubles. Their .350 on base percentage leads the league.

EARLY AND OFTENThe Lady Statesmen are 14-2 when scoring the first run of a game. DSU has outscored opponents 59-17 runs in the first two innings, compared to just 17-13 in the sixth and seventh.

Kassidy Tally slid into the GSC record book as she broke the career stolen bases record (135) of former Lady Statesman Alyse Hasty. Tally, who currently ranks fourth in NCAA Division II history, is the active NCAA leader with 188 swipes, also holds the GSC single-season record with 74 in 2014. The Raleigh, Miss., native is tied for first in GSC history and second in NCAA Division II history with 67 consecutive steals without being caught.

WE WANT SOME MOOREDuring her three-year career,
Kaitlin Moore has made her mark on the DSU record book. Moore has a .370 career batting average, which ranks third in DSU history. On Feb. 6 in a 12-4 victory over Rogers State, Moore broke former teammate
Amber Adcock's school record with her 51st double.

With her two-RBI single in the 8-2 victory over Lee Moore now has 138 career RBIs, which moves her into a tie for third in the DSU record book, along with former teammate
Amber Adcock.

WE WERE MERELY FRESHMENAfter helping the Lady Statesmen to their third straight GSC sweep,
Morgan Kazerooni was named GSC Player-Freshman of the Week. It marks the second time this season that she was named Freshman of the Week.

Kazerooni finished the series with Lee with a .667 (6-for-9) batting average, while also scoring a run in each game.

Four of her six hits went for extra bases, as she collected two doubles and two home runs, giving her a 1.556 slugging percentage for the weekend. She drove in six and scored three runs. She has now collected an extra base hit in 11-of-21 games.

The Kennesaw, Ga., native has hit safely in her last 14 contests.

DSU UNDER CHARLESDSU is 198-208 since Casey Charles took over at the helm. The former Lady Statesman is 93-66 at University Field, 52-84 on the road and 54-59 at neutral sites.

LADY STATESMEN TABBED SIXTHFor the second straight season, the Delta State University softball team was picked to finish sixth in the Gulf South Conference preseason poll.

For the second straight year, Valdosta State (92 points) and Alabama Huntsville (87) were picked first and second. 2015 GSC Champion and NCAA Semifinalist Shorter (86) was picked to finish third. North Alabama (80) received the final first place vote.

Lee (65), in its first year as a full member of the GSC, was selected fifth.

The Lady Statesmen had three fifth place votes, four sixth place votes and three seventh place votes. Union (39), West Alabama (38), West Florida (33 points), West Georgia (24) and Christian Brothers (11) rounded out the poll.
