DSU CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON AT HOME VSU
After dropping three contests to West Florida, the Lady Statesmen host Valdosta State in the regular season finale.
- DSU is 5-5 in its last 10 contests, which includes a doubleheader split with Arkansas Monticello and a GSC series victory at Shorter.
- DSU is 16-6 at University Field this season.
Â
QUICK HITS
- In its last series, DSU was shutout in back-to-back contests since dropping two straight 7-0 decisions at Shorter in 2014.
- Should the Lady Statesmen win the series with VSU, they will be no lower than the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament.
Â
SETTING THE STAGE: VSU
- VSU holds a 9-1 edge in the last 10 meetings with the Lady Statesmen. The Lady Blazers outscored DSU 21-4 in a pair of victories last year.
- All three current DSU pitchers saw action in the series.
- Kassidy Tally is the only returning player that had multiple hits over two games against VSU.
Â
Â
DOUBLE TROUBLE
With 79 doubles through 48 games, the Lady Statesmen have more doubles than in four of the last six full seasons. DSU had 86 doubles in the 2014 season, a campaign that saw it make the second NCAA Tournament appearance in school history.
Kaitlin Moore entered the week as the NCAA Division II leader with 21 doubles. Moore has 68 career doubles, which moved her into second place all-time in GSC history. The 2006 edition that smacked 98 two-baggers set the DSU record.
Â
BOMBS AWAY
The Lady Statesmen have hit 28 home runs this season, which ranks fourth in the GSC. The total marks the most round-trippers for a DSU team since hitting 30 in 2009.
Â
WE LIKE THEM CLOSE
DSU is 10-5 in contests decided by one run. By comparison, the Lady Statesmen were 6-7 in 2015, and 4-10 in 2014.
Â
WINNING WAYS
With its 33 wins this season, DSU has its highest total since having the same total in 2008, in which it played 59 games. The Lady Statesmen won a program-best 49 games in 2006.
Â
LEADERS OF THE PACK
Kaitlin Moore and
Kassidy Tally entered the week in the top-five among all active NCAA players in two statistical categories, and in five categories among NCAA Division II players. Moore ranks second in all divisions with 68 career two-baggers, while Tally is the active NCAA leader with 225 stolen bases.
Â
Among NCAA Division II players, Tally is fourth in at bats (724), and runs (187), while Moore is fourth in hits (265). Tally currently leads the nation with 64 steals, while Moore also leads the nation with 21 doubles.
Â
TAYLOR SQUARED
Taylor Johnson and
Taylor Tucker have combined for 25 victories in the circle this season. Johnson leads DSU with a 13-7 record, while Tucker is 12-5. This marks the first time since 2006 (Britni Adcox and Randa Blenden) that two pitchers have had 12 or more victories.

Â
TURNING TWO
The Lady Statesmen rank second in the GSC, having turned 19 double plays. Infielders
Abi Gibson and
