Trent Giambrone had four hits and two RBIs and lead No. 15 Delta State University (35-15) to a 7-2 win over the University of Alabama Huntsville (31-19) in the first round of the GSC Tournament on Saturday at Jim Spooner Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trent Giambrone singled and scored on a Ben Pickard single to right, which put the Statesmen in front 1-0 in the first.
- The Chargers tied the game at one on a Tanner Gardner RBI single in the second.
- Colton Welch launch a solo home run in the second to give the Statesmen a 2-1 lead. The long ball was Welch's seventh this season.
- Delta State pushed the lead to 5-1 in the fifth, when Giambrone launched a two-run home run to left and Jacob Swiney drove in a run with a single.
- The Statesmen loaded the bases in the sixth only to see reliever Logan Crook get fly out and a strikeout to end the threat.
- Dalton Moats got a strikeout and a fly out to work the Statesmen out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh.
- Welch and Cummins delivered RBI singles in the seventh to make the score 7-1.
- UAH cut the DSU lead to 7-2 in the ninth on an AJ Walden single.
- Moats (10-3) yielded one run on two hits with four strikeouts through seven innings to earn the win.
- Jacob Howell had five strikeouts while allowing one run on three hits over the final two innings for DSU.
- Starter Wilson Adams (10-3) gave up five runs on 12 hits, in six innings, with four strikeouts.
- Giambrone finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs while Cummins, Gill, Pickard, Swiney and Welch had two hits each to lead the Statesmen at the plate.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Moats finished the game with four strikeouts to become the first pitcher since Josh Branstetter (104) in 2012 to record 100 strikeouts.
- DSU pounded out 17 hits in the game, recording double digit hits for the 32nd time in 50 games this season.
- Giambrone's fifth inning home run was his ninth, tying for the team lead with Ben Pickard. Giambrone went 4-for-5 for his third four-hit and 23rd multi-hit game.
- The Statesmen earned their seventh straight win over the Chargers, improving to 38-20-1 overall and 9-4 in the GSC Tournament.
- Delta State head coach Mike Kinnison now has 845 career victories.
