CLEVELAND, Miss. -- No. 13/15 Delta State University baseball (22-8, 10-5 GSC) travels to Christian Brothers University for a (9-23, 4-14 GSC) three game GSC series, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. and concluding with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Nadicksbernd Field in Memphis, Tenn.

The Statesmen: Delta State leads the GSC in hits (215), RBIs (192) and slugging percentage (.455) and ranks second in batting average (.307), home runs (29), on base percentage (.404).
Zack Shannon leads the Statesmen in batting average (.427), doubles (9), RBIs (42) and home runs (8).
Clay Casey has seven home runs, nine doubles and 25 RBIs. The probable weekend rotation is

Scouting CBU: The Bucs enter the weekend on a six-game losing skid after a 6-3 loss to Rhodes College on Tuesday. Taylor King his hitting .340 with 10 doubles, five home runs and 25 RBIs while Riley Kilgore has a .310 average. Casey Goodwin has five home runs, four doubles and 19 RBIs. Probable starting pitchers: Peyton Sanderlin (RHP, 3-3, 4.86 ERA, 42 Ks, 20 BB, 37 R, 29 ER), Patrick Gurley (LHP, 1-5, 7.34 ERA, 38 Ks, 11 BBs, 38 R, 31 ER) and Gil Erwin (LHP, 4.80 ERA, 3-5, 25 Ks, 16 BBs, 33 R, 27 ER).
Last GSC Series: The Statesmen swept a three-game series for the second straight weekend to run their GSC winning streak to six games. The sweep of UNA allowed the Statesmen to take over first place in the GSC standings. Delta State swept a doubleheader on Saturday, 8-4 and 18-10 before earning a 6-2 win in game three on Sunday. The Statesmen hit .385 in the series and were led by
Clay Casey's .667 average with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs.
Brian Lane hit .500 with three BIS followed by
Jason Popovich with a .417 average five runs scored, two doubles an three RBIs.Â
Josh Russell hit.375 with a double, a grand slam home run and five RBIs while
Zack Shannon hit. 364 with a double, home run and five RBIs.Â
MIDWEEK RECAP
No. 11 Southern Arkansas drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 11th to upend the No. 15 Statesmen 3-2 on Tuesday. The Muleriders scored a run in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead before the Statesmen scored a run in the seventh and eighth to tie the game. Delta State loaded the bases in the top of the 11th but SAU turned a double play on a squeeze bunt attempt to end the threat.
Zach Osbon (5-1) took the loss in relief for the Statesmen. The Monroe, La., native gave up one run on one hit with four strikeouts and three walks in 3.1 innings.
Josh Russell and
Emil Ellis each collected two hits as the only Statesmen with multiple hits.
Nick Morgan and
Zack Shannon had RBI singles.
CASEY EARNS GSC WEEKLY HONOR
Junior
Clay Casey was named the GSC Player of the Week for the week of March 21. Casey helped the Statesmen to a 4-0 week that included a sweep of GSC leader North Alabama and a midweek win over Henderson State. Casey hit .625 (10-for-16) with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs in four games. Casey scored seven runs and slugged 1.125 while posting a .667 on base percentage. The Melbourne, Fla., native hit .667 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs and slugged 1.083 with a .692 on base percentage in the UNA series.
ROAD TESTED
The Statesmen are 12-4 on the road and 1-0 in neutral site games. Delta State has wins over nationally ranked Florida Southern, West Alabama, and Lee on the road and a neutral site win over current No. 1 Mount Olive (Lakeland, Fla.). As a team, the Statesmen are hitting .273 and are averaging six runs per game.
Zack Shannon is hitting .365 with four home runs, five doubles and 23 RBIs.
Juwan Burney is batting .344 and has two home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs.
Emil Ellis has a .327 average with two doubles, a triple and six RBIs while
Jason Popovich has scored 13 runs with 11 RBIs and two home runs.
