Box Score 2 PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 5 Delta State University (31-8, 21-5 GSC) claimed a 7-5 comeback win in game one and 8-0 win in game two over the University of West Florida (23-18, 15-11 GSC) on Friday at Jim Spooner Field. The Statesmen used a four-run seventh to erase a 5-3 deficit in game one before scoring two in the first and three in the second en route to the game two win.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
- The Statesmen grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Jason Popovich and Emil Ellis singled to start the inning. Popovich later scored on a two-out single by Clay Casey.
- West Florida pushed a run across in the bottom of the first. Chase Kiefer led off with a doubled and scored on a throwing error.
- A Robert Lopez two-run single followed by a Tanner Halstead RBI single put the Argos in front 4-1 in the bottom of the third.
- The Green-and-White cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the sixth. Zack Shannon singled and Clay Casey doubled to start the inning. Shannon would score on a Juwan Burney ground out and Casey came home on a Josh Russell infield single.
- Michael Savas was hit by a pitch and would score on a Kiefer single to make the score 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Statesmen exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 lead. Popovich and Ellis doubled and scored on a Brian Lane single to center to tie the game. Shannon launched a two-run home run with Lane on board to give DSU its first lead of the day.
ON THE MOUND (GM 1)
- Brady Chambley (4-1) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings and only allowed one hit to get the win.
- Zach Osbon (5 saves) worked three-up, three-down ninth to record the save.
- Brian Browning (3-2) gave up two runs on five hits with a strikeout as the pitcher of record for UWF.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
- The Statesmen took a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Popovich and Lane singled and Ellis was hit by a pitch to lead the bases with no outs. Popovich scored on a Shannon single and Ellis came home on a Burney single while Lane scored when Nick Morgan reached on a fielder's choice.
- The Statesmen scored five runs, all with two outs, in the top of the second to build an 8-0 lead Casey drove in two runs with a single followed by RBI singles from Burney and Morgan. Cody Young doubled down the right field line finish the scoring in the inning.
ON THE MOUND (GM 2)
- Tre Hobbs (5-4) went the distance for fourth time this season, scattering four hits and six strikeouts in seven innings of work.
- Jared Middleton (3-1) gave up three runs on three runs in the first inning to take the loss for UWF.
NOTEABLES
- Shannon collected three hits with a home run and two RBIs followed by Casey with three hits with an RBI to lead the Statesmen 15-hit attack in game one.
- Popovich, Ellis, Lane and Russell each had two hits in game one.
- Jason Popovich recorded to two hits in both games and now leads the team with 22 multi-hit games while also extending his hitting streak to 14 games.
- Shannon home run in game one his GSC leading 11th. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native has 16 multi-RBI games and extended consecutive games reached base streak to 33.
- Casey has reached base in 23 straight games and his two-RBIs in game two give the junior nine multi-RBI games.
- Hobbs complete game was the fourth of the season and 12th of his career while his seven strikeouts were the most since punching out seven against UAH (3.29).
- Lane, Morgan and Burney also recorded two hits in game two while Casey and Burney had two RBIs apiece.
- The Statesmen scored six of eight runs with two outs in game two.
- The Green-and-White extended their winning streak to nine games overall and 14 straight in GSC games.
