Tre Hobbs struck out a career-high 13 batters to lead No. 7 Delta State University (37-11) to a 9-2 win over Alabama Huntsville (22-26) in game four of the 2017 Gulf South Conference Baseball Tournament on Saturday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to build a 2-0 lead. Zack Shannon and Clay Casey drew walks to start the inning. A Juwan Burney single to right scored Shannon and Casey came home on a Josh Russell single to left.
- Ben Rhodes reached on a fielder's choice and would score on a Trey Mathis single to right to cut the DSU lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth.
- The Statesmen added a run to the lead in the bottom sixth to make the score 3-1. Brian Lane and Shannon walk and Burney was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. A Russell sac-fly to center field scored Shannon.
- The Green-and-White pushed the lead to 5-1 with a two-run seventh. Emil Ellis doubled and scored on a Lane double with two outs and Lane came home on a throwing error.
- Four runs crossed the plate the bottom of the eighth to extend the Statesmen lead to 9-1. The first run scored on a throwing error followed by a Justin Nussbaum had an RBI double and RBI singles by Shannon and Ellis.
- An A.J. Walden solo home run in the ninth cut the Statesmen lead to 9-2.
ON THE MOUND
- Hobbs (7-4) tossed his sixth complete game of the season, giving up two runs and scattering eight hits with 13 strikeouts against one walk in nine innings pitched.
- Will Myers (6-4) gave up five runs, four earned with five strikeouts, and five walks in 6.2 innings of work as the UAH pitcher of record.
NOTEABLES
- Hobbs struck out a career-high 13 hitters, three strikeouts shy of the single-game school record.
- The Statesmen improved to 24-3 when scoring first.
- The Green-and-White captured their 12th straight win overall and fourth straight win the GSC Tournament action over the Chargers.
- The Statesmen have won their last five GSC Tournament games.
- Shannon's eighth inning RBI single extended his hitting streak to 13 games while extending his consecutive games reached base streak to 43.
- Casey walked and scored in the second to extend his reached base streak to 33 games.
- Hobbs notched his 14th complete game of his career.
- Ellis went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI followed by Burney, who was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Statesmen nine hit attack.
