HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jason Popovich drew a walk and Brian singled with one out to set up a Zack Shannon three-run home run to put the Statesmen out in front 3-0 in the bottom of the first.
- The Statesmen added eight runs in the second to take an 11-0 lead. Shannon had a three-run home run and a sac-fly RBI and Popovich had a two-run single. Two runs scored on walks with the bases loaded and a run crossed on a groundout.
- Popovich gave the Statesmen a 15-0 lead with a grand slam down the right field line in the fourth.
ON THE MOUND
- Melvin Frazier (3-0) gave up one hit with one strikeout over four scoreless innings to earn the end.
- Chris Taylor (0-1) took the loss for Harding, giving up six runs on three hits with a strikeout.
- Seth Hogusen tossed two scoreless innings with a strikeout and Jason Lott tossed scoreless seventh a pair of strikeouts.
NOTABLES
- Shannon's two-run home run was his 34th career home run and is now two home runs shy of tying Barry Lyons (1979-82) for fifth on the school's all-time home runs list.
- Shannon's seven RBIs set a season-high, one shy of his career-high of nine, finished the night 3-for-3.
- Popovich, who was 2-for-3 with six RBIs, set a new career-high driving in six runs and has hit home runs in back-to-back games.
- Lane finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored and Darek Sargent was 2-for-4 with one run scored.
- The Statesmen have scored double-digit runs 12 times and collected double-figure hits 15 times this season
