CLEVELAND, Miss. – Matt Majeur hit a three-run home run to lead No. 12/14 Delta State University baseball team (22-8, 13-6 GSC) to a 6-4 win over the University of Alabama Huntsville (18-11, 9-7 GSC) in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.
The Chargers held off a late rally to claim a 5-3 win in the nightcap. Delta State scored to runs to cut the deficit to 5-3 and had the tying runs scoring position in the bottom of the seventh before a strikeout ended the threat and the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1
- Will Acuff doubled and scored on a Tyler McCown single to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead in the top of the third.
- Delta State tied the game in the bottom of the third. Weber Herbison singled and scored from first on a David Herrington two-out double.
- The Statesmen broke the 1-1 tie with a five-run fifth to take a 6-1 lead. Hayden White doubled and scored on a throwing error and Herbison scored on a Jake Barlow sac-fly. Matt Majeur closed the inning with a three-run home run.
- Alabama Huntsville scored a run in the sixth, seventh and eighth to cut the Statesmen lead to 6-4. Malave Bettinger doubled and scored on a Landon Ezzell sac-fly in the sixth and Zach Duvall tripled and scored on a Acuff RBI ground out in the seventh. Jack Stamper doubled and come home on a Steven Milke sac-fly to center.
ON THE MOUND | GM 1
- Hunter Riggins (7-2) struck out seven and allowed four runs on seven hits to earn the win for the Statesmen.
- Tyler Self (3-3) allowed six runs, one earned, on seven hits with six strikeouts to take the loss for UAH.
- Tyler Walton (2) entered the ninth with a runner on and no outs to retire the side and record the save.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2
- An Ezzell RBI single followed by a bases loaded walk gave UAH a 2-0 lead in the top of the second.
- Bettinger hit a solo home run to center field to put the Chargers up 3-0 in the third.
- The Statesmen cut the UAH lead to 3-1 on a Herbison home run in the bottom of the fourth.
- The Chargers added a run in the sixth and on in the seventh to take a 5-1 lead. Acuff walked and scored on a squeeze bunt in the sixth to increase the Chargers' lead to 4-1 in the sixth. Steven Milke doubled in a run in the seventh.
- The Statesmen rallied for two runs to cut the deficit to 5-3 with the tying runs scoring position in the bottom of the seventh. CJ Estave walked, David Herrington singled and Russell was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Jake Barlow walked to plate Luke Ketchum and Patrick Hodges grounded out to score Herrington. The Statesmen had runners at second and third with two outs when a strikeout ended the threat.
ON THE MOUND | GM 2
- Melvin Frazer (4-3) gave up two runs on one hits with two walks in one inning pitched to take the loss for the Statesmen.
- Dylan Murphy (4-2) pitched six innings, giving up three runs on five hits with three strikeouts to earn the win for UAH.
- Brooks Brophy (1) struck out two in the seventh to pick up the save for the Chargers.
NOTEABLES
- Majeur finished 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and Herrington had an RBI double in game one.
- Patrick Hodges was the only Statesmen with two hits in game one.
- Herbison hit his third home run of the season and Barlow notched his eighth double of the year in game two.
- Herrington, Russell and game two win snapped a 12-game winning streak by the Statesmen in the series.
