ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Darek Sargent had a home run and three RBIs and three pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout to help No. 16/19 Delta State University baseball (24-9) claim a 10-0 win over Ouachita Baptist University (15-18 on Wednesday at Rab Rodgers Field.
 
Sargent went 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored while Jake Barlow and Matt Mejeur had two RBIs apiece. ­­

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Statesmen plated a run in the first and three runs in the second to stake to a 4-0 lead.
  • Sargent doubled and scored on a Matt Majeur groundout in the first.
  • Hayden White reached on an error and Brett Young walked leading up to a Sargent three-run home run in the second.
  • The Green-and-White put up six runs in the fourth. Brett Young singled and scored on a David Herrington double and a Jake Barlow double scored Herrington and Sargent. Two more runs scored on a Majeur groundout and a CJ Estave single.
  • Relievers Cole Morgan and Christian Day combined for four shutout innings. The duo allowed one hit with a strikeout finsish the combined shutout.
ON THE MOUND
  • Melvin Frazier (5-2) yielded one hit and struck out three in 3.0 scoreless innings of work.
  • Morgan struck out two and did not a give up a hit in 2.1 innings pitched in relief of Frazier.
  • Day allowed one hit in 1.2 innings of relief to finish the game.
  • Tyler Duck (1-3) gave up a run on two hits in one inning pitch to suffer the loss for OBU.
NOTEABLES
  • The shutout was the third shutout by Statesmen hurlers this season and the first shutout since a 5-0 win over Union University (2.25.19).
  • Sargent finished 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. The Smyna, Tenn., native is tied with Hayden White and Matt Mejeur for second with four home runs.
  • White went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored as the only other Statesmen with multiple hits.
  • Barlow drove in a pair of runs with a double and Herrington had an RBI double.
  • Majeur was 1-for-4 with two RBIs
